Choose a lift chair that fits the person and the room

By the Life in Good Form editors. Updated 2026-10-17.

We research products from makers' specs and health sources; we do not run hands-on tests. Links to Amazon may earn us a commission at no cost to you. How this works.

Quick answerStart with seat fit and the ability to use the controls, rather than the largest chair or the longest feature list. The MCombo 6160-7287 fabric model offers a wider regular seat without heat or massage. The HOMCOM 713-042V81BU has a narrower seat and a simple remote. Both are powered recliners that lift toward standing. Neither is a substitute for a transfer assessment when someone needs physical assistance.

Compare the picks and what to watch out for

Two chairs with different seat widths

We compared maker pages and model instructions, not comfort in use or lifting performance. These picks focus on lift and recline. They are not massage chairs, stair lifts or patient hoists. Choose between them only after checking the measurements against the person who will sit in the chair.

ModelSeat widthRecline
MCombo 728721.7 in.140 degrees
HOMCOM 713-042V81BU18.5 in.135 degrees

MCombo lists no massage or heating on this fabric model. HOMCOM describes its selected blue model as without massage. Do not mistake the electric lift mechanism for a massage system, and do not buy a chair with extra features merely because they sound helpful for a health condition.

Measure the person before choosing a chair size

Golden Technologies recommends comparing seated body measurements with seat width, seat height, back height and seat depth. Its guide maps hip width to seat width and the distance from the bend of the knee to the floor to seat height. For depth, it measures from the back of the chair to the bend of the knee while your back touches the chair.

Golden also warns that a chart cannot replace sitting in the chair. Springs, cushions and the way a chair settles under body weight affect how it feels. Its sizing advice is useful here as a measuring method, not proof that a MCombo or HOMCOM size label means the same thing as a Golden size.

HOMCOM lists the selected seat as 18.5 inches wide, 21.5 inches deep and 17.75 inches high. MCombo lists the regular 7287 seat width as 21.7 inches. Obtain any missing dimension before buying if it decides fit. A wider seat is a different fit choice, not an automatic comfort upgrade. Ask for a trial or a fitting where possible.

Allow room for the chair to move

HOMCOM lists the upright chair as 26 inches wide, 35.5 inches deep and 37.75 inches high. Reclined, it lists 61.75 inches of length. That footprint matters in a small room, but it is not the same measurement as clearance behind the chair. Confirm the required wall clearance for the delivered model rather than estimating it from overall length.

MCombo says to leave space for the footrest to extend without rubbing furniture or rugs. Its manual requires a wall outlet and says not to use an extension cord or adapter. Plan the outlet location along with the furniture layout. Do not run a cord where it can be trapped by the moving mechanism or become a trip hazard.

Before ordering, write down the route from the delivery point to the intended room. Check the packaged and assembled dimensions with the seller and ask what assembly is required. The MCombo page lists multiple boxes for this size. That does not mean the seller will carry, assemble or position it in your room; verify the offered delivery service separately.

Understand the control and power limits

HOMCOM supplies a remote and its assembly instructions identify the up and down controls for raising and lowering the chair. MCombo uses a lift remote as well. A simple control still needs to suit the user. If vision, hand control, memory or movement makes operation uncertain, ask an occupational therapist or another qualified clinician to assess the setup.

MCombo instructs users to bring the back upright and close the footrest before getting out. It also says only the occupant should operate the chair. Do not plan a caregiver operated transfer that conflicts with those instructions. If the person cannot use the chair as directed, these picks may be the wrong type of equipment.

We have not confirmed a supplied battery backup for either selected offer. Do not assume that a powered chair will move during an outage or that any aftermarket battery will work. Ask the maker about approved options before depending on one. A couch cane or stand assist rail is a separate aid with its own fit and safety limits.

Keep children clear of the mechanism

A CPSC staff letter describes child entrapment involving recliner mechanisms and moving foot supports. That is a reason to consider the whole household before bringing a powered recliner home, rather than treating its remote as an ordinary entertainment control.

MCombo directs users to keep children and pets away from moving parts and openings. It warns against sitting or adding weight on the arms, back or extended footrest. Check the area around and under the chair before moving it, and follow the supplied manual. Do not allow children to play on, under or near the chair.

The same manual says people with physical limitations or medical devices should contact their health care provider, and includes a caution for mobility impairment and reduced heat sensation. These instructions still matter even though this selected model has no heating feature. A lift label is not a guarantee that a particular person can use it safely. Our transfer board guide covers a different transfer aid; it does not make a recliner suitable for a person who needs a hoist.

Match the model and resolve a limit before buying

The selected MCombo is the brown fabric, medium 6160-7287, with maker variant code 6160-7287BR. Other sizes and upholstery versions share the product page. The selected HOMCOM is the blue 713-042V81BU, not a similar dark blue or massage model. Compare the model code on Amazon with the maker page before ordering.

MCombo lists a 350 pound capacity. Aosom's HOMCOM product details say 265 pounds while its comparison table says 264 pounds. That unresolved discrepancy is important if load capacity determines your choice. Do not choose the HOMCOM close to that limit without confirmation from Aosom for the exact model.

On October 17, 2026 the checked new MCombo offer was sold by MCombo. The HOMCOM offer was sold by Aosom Direct, whose Amazon business name is Aosom LLC, matching the maker store. The HOMCOM offer showed limited stock. Availability and seller can change; inspect the exact Amazon search result again before ordering.

When to talk to a doctor: Ask a qualified clinician whether a powered recliner suits the person's transfer ability, physical limitations and medical devices. Follow the maker's control and movement instructions. Keep children and pets away from the chair mechanism.

Questions people ask

Is a lift chair the same as a patient lift?
No. These recliners tilt the seated occupant toward standing. They are not hoists for transferring someone who cannot use a recliner as directed. Ask a clinician which type of equipment fits the transfer need.
Does a wider chair always fit better?
No. Golden recommends comparing body measurements with seat width, depth, seat height and back height, and trying a chair in person. A size label is not a guarantee of fit.
Can a caregiver operate the MCombo remote for the occupant?
The opened MCombo manual says only the occupant should operate the chair. If assistance with controls is necessary, ask the maker and a clinician about a suitable alternative rather than overriding that instruction.
Do these chairs work during a power outage?
We did not confirm an included battery backup for either offer. Ask each maker about an approved arrangement before relying on one. Do not assume that any external battery or adapter is compatible.
Why is there no universal user height recommendation?
Seat and body measurements determine fit, and the selected pages do not establish one shared height range. We do not apply a different maker's sizing chart as a guarantee for these chairs.
