How the three belts score
Our spec score uses five checks from the makers’ own pages, weighted the same for every belt. Titan leads on rated load, pad width and adjustment. The method is at the bottom of the page.
Life in Good Form spec score out of 10, from each maker’s page and Amazon listing text, read Oct 22, 2026. It is not a customer rating or a lifting test.

Titan Fitness Multi-Use Hip Belt (Titan item 401970)
You want the most headroom on load and the widest pad, on a machine, sled or landmine.

You plan to hang plates off boxes. The Bells of Steel belt comes with a chain.
Titan Fitness’s Multi-Use Hip Belt scored 9.7, the top score here. It carries the highest rating of our three at 1,000 lb, and it’s sold on Amazon by Titan itself. Titan’s own item number is 401970, and the Amazon text matches Titan’s spec table line for line.
That 1,000 lb figure is the maker’s limit for the belt, not a target. It’s 200 lb more than REP’s rating and 300 lb more than Bells of Steel’s, which is why Titan maxes out our biggest check.
Titan sells it as the replacement belt for its SquatMax machines: the rack-mounted SquatMax-MD and the stand-alone SquatMax-MD Belt Squat Machine. It isn’t tied to them, though. Titan also names sleds, landmines and other heavy-duty fitness machines.
It has the widest pad on the page. The pad is 38.25 inches long and 6.9 inches tall, about 1.2 inches taller than the center of the Bells of Steel belt. The whole belt runs 66 inches end to end and weighs 2 lb.
Adjustment is its other lead. Titan gives it seven 2 in adjustment points, the most we found, and says they give a secure, customizable fit. A carabiner comes in the box, so you can clip it to a machine or a sled on day one.
The belt is high-strength nylon. Titan doesn’t publish the closure type or a waist range, so check the 66 inch overall length against your hips before you order. A chain isn’t listed in the box, so add one if you load plates on a chain.
Titan’s page lists a 1-year warranty, the same term as the other two belts, with longer cover through Mulberry, a paid plan offered at checkout. The only check it doesn’t max out is hardware: one carabiner, where Bells of Steel includes a chain and two clips.

REP Fitness’s Belt Squat Belt scored 8.2. REP sells it on Amazon itself under the title Hip Squat Belt, and the model number on the listing, BSB-1000, matches the SKU on REP’s own page. It’s rated for 800 lb.
Its standout is the clip-in. A G-hook closes the belt, and REP says to hook it loosely, not tight. You strap in before you connect to the machine, which REP says cuts out the awkward moment of hooking a belt to the weight.
The front carries a four-point waterfall webbing chain with steel O-rings. That gives you four heights, each 2 inches apart. REP’s setup advice is to clip the machine’s carabiner into two O-rings at the height you want and start in a half-squat.
The shell is 1000D CORDURA nylon, which REP says resists abrasion, fraying and moisture. Inside are thick foam layers and air mesh. Quilt-through stitching lets the belt bend with your hips, and REP says the webbing straps are placed so they won’t dig in.
The padded belt is 37 inches long and 6.5 inches tall, only 0.4 inches shorter than Titan’s pad. The webbing belt with its G-hook is 55 inches, and it measures 58 inches from one end O-ring to the other. REP backs it with a 1-year warranty.
Two things hold it under the Titan. REP doesn’t list a chain or carabiner in the box, and its own setup steps assume the carabiner on your machine. Add one if you load from a cable or from plates. Its 800 lb rating is also 200 lb under Titan’s.
REP says it works with a variety of home and commercial belt squat machines, though it can’t guarantee other makers’ setups. It adds that most standard carabiners clip into the reinforced O-rings.

Bells of Steel’s Belt Squat Belt scored 8.1. It’s the belt Bells of Steel puts in the box with its own Belt Squat Machine, its Belt Squat Rack Attachment and its Reverse Hammer/GHD. On Amazon it’s sold by Bells of Steel USA, under the maker’s model number BSA-SG.
It’s the only one of our three that comes with what you need to hang plates. The Amazon listing includes a 12 in steel chain and two oversized carabiner clips. Bells of Steel names a low cable and a lever arm as other ways to load it.
Bells of Steel says the extra-long lead straps let plates hang at the right height without the chain digging into your thighs. Its Dip Belt page makes the contrast: belt squats on that belt are possible but not ideal, because the chain rubs the inner thighs.
The belt is polypropylene fiber and EVA foam, 10 mm thick, with a stainless steel buckle. Width runs from 4 inches at the sides to 5.75 at the center. Bells of Steel calls it wide padding that hugs your waist to prevent bruising, and the Amazon text adds reinforced zigzag stitching.
Length is the one spec that differs between sources. Bells of Steel’s spec table gives 74.5 inches, while the Amazon listing says 5 by 53.5 inches. We couldn’t tell which parts each figure counts, so we show both. Bells of Steel says it fits most users.
The rating is 700 lb, and Bells of Steel says the belt is tested to that figure. It’s the lowest of our three and the reason it trails on the biggest check. It’s still more than twice the 300 lb rating of the brand’s own Dip Belt.
Bells of Steel doesn’t publish a count of adjustment settings, so it scores lower there than REP or Titan. At 3 lb it’s the heaviest belt here, and the warranty is 1 year, the same as the others.

THEFITGUY’s belt scored 3.9 on the same five checks. Its Amazon text gives a 350 lb rating, about a third of Titan’s, and the brand’s own website is a parked page, so there’s no spec sheet, pad width or warranty term to confirm.
Spud Inc ranks second on Google for this search, and Google’s shopping results show it through Rogue and Spud’s own store. On Amazon it’s sold only by resellers, with 12 left when we checked. Spud’s site sells Small, Medium and Regular sizes, so the Amazon “Large” listing doesn’t match a size we could confirm.
Which belt works with your setup?
The belts come with different hardware, and the makers name different setups. Pick yours and the load you’ll hang to check all three.
Setup and hardware check
Choose how you’ll load the belt and the most you’ll hang from it. We check each maker’s rating and what’s in the box.
Titan Multi-Use Hip Belt: Rated 1,000 lb, enough for 300 lb. Titan names belt squat machines (its SquatMax-MD). The carabiner in the box clips in.
REP Belt Squat Belt: Rated 800 lb, enough for 300 lb. REP says it works with most belt squat machines. Use the machine’s carabiner in two O-rings.
Bells of Steel Belt Squat Belt: Rated 700 lb, enough for 300 lb. Bells of Steel ships this belt with its own machine and rack attachment. Chain and two clips included.
Ratings, box contents and named setups are the makers’ own. Plates aren’t included with any belt.

How much a belt squat belt holds
Our three are rated 700 to 1,000 lb. A dip belt from the same maker is rated far less.
Weight capacity from each maker’s page, read Oct 22, 2026. The gray bar is a dip belt, shown for comparison; it isn’t a pick.
The rating is the most a maker says the belt holds, and it’s a limit for the webbing and hardware, not a goal. Bells of Steel says its belt is tested up to 700 lb. Titan rates its belt for 1,000 lb, and REP says its belt lets you squat up to 800 lb.
Count everything that hangs from the belt. On a chain, that’s every plate you clip on. On a machine, check the machine’s own rating as well: Bells of Steel rates its Belt Squat Machine at 700 lb, the same as the belt it ships with. If you’re close to a rating, pick the next belt up.
The dip belt in gray shows why the two aren’t swappable. Bells of Steel rates its own Dip Belt for 300 lb and points anyone lifting heavier toward the 700 lb Belt Squat Belt instead.
Padding and pad width
The pad spreads the load across your hips. A taller pad covers more of them.
Pad height at its widest point, from each maker’s spec table, read Oct 22, 2026. The Bells of Steel belt narrows to 4 in at the sides.

REP describes its padding in the most detail: thick foam layers and air mesh, with quilt-through stitching that lets the belt flex. It also says the webbing is placed so it won’t dig into your body. Its pad is 6.5 inches tall, close to Titan’s 6.9.
Bells of Steel’s belt is shaped. It’s 5.75 inches at the center of your back and 4 inches at the sides, and 10 mm thick. Bells of Steel says the padding hugs your waist to prevent bruising.
Titan publishes the pad size but not what’s inside it. We score pad height only, because it’s the one padding figure all three makers publish.

12 in chain, 2 carabiners
A chain sets the hang height by which link you clip, and it’s what you need to hang plates. Bells of Steel puts its 12 inch chain on long lead straps so the chain hangs below your thighs instead of rubbing them.
REP’s webbing chain does the same job in fabric. Its four O-rings sit 2 inches apart, and REP’s advice is to clip into two of them at your chosen height. It needs a carabiner, which REP expects your machine to supply.
Titan’s belt has seven adjustment points and a carabiner in the box. That’s enough for a machine, a sled or a landmine, but not for hanging plates, which needs a chain.
Belt length and fit
No maker publishes a waist range, so compare end-to-end lengths. The belt sits on your hips, not your waist.

REP says the belt should rest snugly on your hips, not your waist, so the load stays off your lower back and spine. Measure around your hips at the hip bones, where the padding sits, and compare that with the lengths above.
The Bells of Steel figures don’t agree. Its own spec table says 74.5 inches, and its Amazon listing says 53.5. Use the shorter number if you’re checking whether it will close around you, and ask Bells of Steel if you’re near it.
Every belt here is one size, with no small or large version. REP adjusts at a G-hook, Titan at seven points and Bells of Steel at a buckle.
Belt squat belt, dip belt or lifting belt?
Three belts go around your middle at the gym. They do different jobs.
Bells of Steel draws the line clearly. It says its Belt Squat Belt is for lower-body work, and for hanging exercises like dips and pull-ups it recommends its Dip Belt instead. Its Dip Belt page says belt squats on that belt are possible but not ideal, because the chain rubs your inner thighs.
REP is looser: it lists weighted dips among the things you can do with its belt squat belt. A weightlifting belt is a different tool again. It has nothing to hang a load from and is worn for bracing, which our weightlifting belt guide covers.
Why people use a belt squat
The makers all say the same thing: the load hangs from your hips, not your shoulders.
Belt squat
Barbell back squat
Where the load sits
Hanging from a belt on your hips
On your upper back
Spine loading
Reduced, per REP
The bar’s full weight
What you need
A belt plus a machine, cable, or chain and plates
A barbell, plates and a rack
Upper body
Free; hands on handles or rails
Holding the bar
REP says belt squats reduce spinal loading compared with barbell squats because the weight is anchored at the hips. It points them at people with back, shoulder or mobility limits who still want to build leg strength. Bells of Steel describes the same idea: shift the weight to your hips and spare your spine.
We don’t give medical advice. If you’re training around a back or hip injury, ask your doctor or physical therapist before you load a belt.
Bells of Steel also says its Belt Squat Machine has 13 height settings but doesn’t promise full depth for every lifter. Standing on blocks or a platform adds range, according to Bells of Steel.
What you can train with one
Belt squats are the main use, but the makers list more. These come from REP’s and Bells of Steel’s pages.
Belt squats
On a machine, a cable, a lever arm or a chain, per all three makers.
Marches and step-ups
Belt squat marches and weighted step-ups, from Bells of Steel.
Lunges and split squats
Hip belt lunges (Bells of Steel) and split squats (REP).
Calf raises and pull-throughs
Calf raises from both; pull-throughs from REP.
Titan names sleds and landmines for its belt, so it covers pulling and pushing work as well. REP adds backward sled pulls on its own curved treadmill with a separate strap, which it lists as coming soon.
For a belt squat on a landmine, you’ll want an attachment that fits your rack; our landmine attachment guide compares the ones sold on Amazon.
How to set up a belt squat belt
These steps follow REP’s setup advice for its belt. The same order works for the other two.
1
Wrap it on your hips
Padding on your lower back and hip bones.
2
Close it loosely
REP says to hook its G-hook loosely, not tight.
3
Pick a height
Clip into two O-rings or a chain link.
4
Start in a half-squat
REP says that’s the usual start.
5
Stand up with the load
Then work through your reps.
On a machine, the carabiner usually comes from the machine itself. That’s how REP’s steps are written. Titan includes one with its belt, and Bells of Steel includes two plus a 12 inch chain.
If you’re hanging plates, check that the chain is long enough for the plates to clear the floor at the bottom of your squat. Bells of Steel says its long lead straps let plates hang at the right height without the chain digging into your thighs.
A padded belt with a chain, O-rings or a carabiner point at the front, so a load hangs from your hips instead of sitting on your back. REP says it should sit snugly on your hips, not your waist.
How much weight can a belt squat belt hold?
Our picks are rated 1,000 lb (Titan Multi-Use Hip Belt), 800 lb (REP Belt Squat Belt) and 700 lb (Bells of Steel Belt Squat Belt). Bells of Steel’s own Dip Belt is rated 300 lb.
Can you use a dip belt for belt squats?
Bells of Steel says belt squats on its Dip Belt are possible but not ideal, because the chain rubs your inner thighs. Its Dip Belt is rated 300 lb, against 700 lb for its Belt Squat Belt.
What’s the difference between a belt squat belt and a dip belt?
A belt squat belt is rated higher and padded for loads hanging from your hips. Bells of Steel recommends its Dip Belt for dips and pull-ups and its Belt Squat Belt for lower-body work. REP lists weighted dips for its belt squat belt too.
Where should a belt squat belt sit?
On your hips. REP says the padding should sit on your lower back and hip bones, snug on the hips rather than the waist, to keep the load off your lower back and spine.
How do you set up a belt squat belt?
REP’s steps: wrap the belt around your hips, hook the G-hook loosely without tightening it, clip the machine’s carabiner into two O-rings at the height you want, and start in a half-squat before you stand up.
Do you need a belt squat machine?
No. Bells of Steel names a low cable and a lever arm, and its belt comes with a chain for hanging plates. Titan names sleds and landmines. A machine is the setup all three makers name.
Is a belt squat easier on your back than a back squat?
REP says belt squats reduce spinal loading compared with barbell squats because the weight is anchored at the hips, and Bells of Steel says the same. If you have a back injury, ask your doctor first.
Is the Spud belt squat belt on Amazon?
Yes, through resellers, with 12 left when we checked on Oct 22, 2026. Spud’s own site sells Small, Medium and Regular sizes, and the Amazon “Large” listing didn’t match those, so it isn’t one of our picks.
What is the best belt squat belt?
For most setups, the Titan Multi-Use Hip Belt: rated 1,000 lb, a 6.9 in pad and seven adjustment points. For quick clip-in on a machine, the REP Belt Squat Belt. For hanging plates, the Bells of Steel Belt Squat Belt.
How we pick, and how the score works
Why trust us
Life in Good Form is owned and edited by Isaac Daniels. Every number on this page comes from the maker’s own page or Amazon listing text, named in the sources below. We don’t run lifting or lab tests, so we never present a number as measured by us.
Prices and photos come from Amazon and show the time they were read.
How we pick
Belt squat belts only: padded hip belts with a load point. Dip belts, cable belts and machines go elsewhere.
Specs read from the maker, not from other review sites.
Each Amazon listing checked as genuine, new and in stock the day we updated, sold by the brand, and matched to the maker’s model or specs.
Every pick checked against CPSC recalls.
Every pick scores 7.0 or more on our spec score below.
How the spec score is calculated
Every belt squat belt we scored gets the same five checks. A belt needs 7.0 or more to be a pick. Each check is scored out of 10, and the overall score is the weighted average. It’s built from the makers’ published specs only. It isn’t a customer rating or a lifting test.
