How a bidet attachment works
A bidet attachment sits under your existing toilet seat. TUSHY says its Classic 4.0 attaches securely between the toilet bowl and seat, fits 95% of toilets, and uses your home's existing water pressure, with no electricity or extra plumbing required. A knob controls the spray, from a gentle rinse to a deeper clean.
Self-cleaning nozzles rinse before and after each use and retract when the bidet is turned off, according to TUSHY.
Cool water vs warm water models
| Detail | TUSHY Classic 4.0 | TUSHY Spa 3.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Water | Cool, using your home water pressure | Cool to warm, via a hot water connection |
| Nozzles | Dual front and rear, independently adjustable | Single SmartSpray nozzle with precision adjuster |
| Install | 8 1/2 minutes or less on most standard toilets | 10 minutes or less on most standard toilets |
| Placement | Any compatible toilet | Must be next to a sink to connect |
| Power | No electricity | No electricity listed |
Details are from TUSHY product pages. TUSHY says the Spa uses a 6-foot long hot water connection to reach the sink hookup.
Features worth comparing
- Pressure control. Both TUSHY models let you choose a gentle to strong stream.
- Nozzle position. TUSHY says the Classic 4.0 has two independently adjustable nozzles for front and rear, and that its spray range is 66% larger than the previous version to support more bodies and mobility levels.
- Easy controls. TUSHY describes a larger spray knob it says is 35% easier to turn on the Classic 4.0.
- Nozzle guard. The Classic 4.0 adds a guard to protect the nozzle from splashback.
- Stable fit. TUSHY lists flange attachments with non-slip pads to keep the seat secure.
TUSHY also says the Classic 4.0 is 29% slimmer than before, a 2.5 mm reduction in thickness, and uses a stainless steel adapter. It lists 30-day returns for store credit, with exclusions, so check the return terms before you install.
Installing one
Most attachments are a do-it-yourself job. TUSHY says all you need for the Classic 4.0 is a screwdriver, and offers text, phone, email or video support. Before buying, check your toilet's shape and seat bolts against the maker's compatibility guide.
For the Spa 3.0, plan the hot water route: TUSHY says it must be next to a sink. If you use a raised seat or toilet frame, check whether the bidet fits with it; our bedside commode over toilet guide covers raised seating.
Hemorrhoid care alongside a bidet
A bidet does not treat hemorrhoids. For hemorrhoids, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) suggests eating high-fiber foods, drinking liquids as your health care professional recommends, not straining during bowel movements, and not sitting on the toilet for long periods of time. It also suggests sitting in a tub of warm water, called a sitz bath, several times a day to help relieve pain.
If you use a bidet while sore, the lowest pressure setting is the gentlest option the controls offer. For creams and other comfort items, see our hemorrhoid cream guide.
Cleaning and when to see a doctor
TUSHY says its nozzles and knobs on the Classic 4.0 resist bacteria growth and its design minimizes grime buildup, but you should still clean the attachment along with your toilet. Follow the maker's cleaning instructions so you do not damage the nozzle.
NIDDK says to seek medical care right away if you have severe anal pain and bleeding from your rectum. Any rectal bleeding that is new or ongoing is worth a doctor visit. For gentle skin care afterward, see our body wash guide.
