Hatch Restore 3 smart sunrise alarm clock: how it works

By the Life in Good Form editors. Updated 2026-10-13.

We research products from makers' specs and health sources; we do not run hands-on tests. Links to Amazon may earn us a commission at no cost to you. How this works.

Quick answerThe Hatch Restore 3 is a bedside sunrise alarm, sound machine and light from Hatch. You set it up and build alarms in the free Hatch Sleep app, and it needs 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Each sunrise alarm brightens through sunrise colors over a length you choose, then plays a sound; a tap of the top button snoozes for 9 minutes. A set of sounds and sunrises is included, and a Hatch+ subscription adds more content. If you want a sunrise alarm with no app or Wi-Fi, a simpler clock may suit you better.

What the Restore 3 is

The Restore 3 combines three things in one device: a sunrise alarm, a sleep sound machine, and a bedside light for winding down. Hatch's help center says its sunrise alarm pairs a light, which shows sunrise-like colors and gradually brightens over the duration you choose, with a sound that starts at your alarm time.

It is designed to be set up from your phone and then used with your phone put away. For how sunrise alarms work in general, and what the research shows, see our sunrise alarm clock guide.

Specs and setup requirements

ItemPer Hatch's support pages
Size7.5 x 2.75 x 5.75 inches
Weight19 ounces
MaterialsABS plastic, LED lights and fabric
InternetRequires 2.4GHz Wi-Fi
PhoneA Bluetooth-enabled device and the free Hatch Sleep app for iOS or Android

The Wi-Fi requirement matters. If your router offers more than one band, connect the Restore 3 to the 2.4GHz network.

Setting a sunrise alarm

  1. Connect the Restore 3 in the Hatch Sleep app.
  2. Under Sunrise Alarm, tap Add alarm.
  3. Choose a light color, or turn the light off.
  4. Choose a sound, or turn the sound off. The sound starts at the alarm time, not during the sunrise.
  5. Set the time, repeat days, brightness, sunrise duration and sunrise volume, then save.

To make a one-time alarm, deselect all days; it goes off once and then deletes itself.

In the morning: a quick tap of the Big Button on top snoozes for 9 minutes, and pressing and holding it turns the alarm off. If you do nothing, Hatch says the alarm sound runs for one hour. A side Alarm Toggle turns all alarms on or off at once.

When to talk to a doctor: A sunrise alarm is a comfort device, not a treatment for sleep problems or depression. See a doctor if you are very sleepy during the day despite enough time in bed, snore loudly with pauses or gasping, or have low mood that returns each winter.
