Choosing a liquid organic bone broth for sipping or cooking

By the Life in Good Form editors. Updated 2026-10-18.

We research products from makers' specs and health sources; we do not run hands-on tests. Links to Amazon may earn us a commission at no cost to you. How this works.

Quick answerFor liquid organic bone broth, compare Kettle & Fire Chicken Bone Broth, its separate Reduced Sodium Chicken Bone Broth and Brodo Organic Chicken Bone Broth pouches. Choose the standard carton for a chicken broth base, the reduced sodium formula when that label matters, or Brodo for its individual pouch format. Check the actual serving, sodium and ingredients. These are prepared liquids, not protein powders, and the organic label does not establish a digestive, joint or immune benefit.

Choose the format before the wellness claim

Start with what you want to do: warm a mug, make soup or use broth in a recipe. The products here are liquid chicken bone broths. They do not need to be treated as supplements or bought for a promised health result.

We compared maker pages, their product documents and FDA label guidance. We did not taste, cook with or test these broths. Texture, aroma and flavor descriptions are the makers' claims, not firsthand findings.

What is actually in the chicken broth?

Kettle & Fire's current Chicken Bone Broth page identifies chicken bones, vegetables, herbs, apple cider vinegar, tamarind, mushroom extract and sea salt, with its listed organic ingredients marked. Its Reduced Sodium Chicken is separately named. Choose the exact formula before checking its nutrition panel rather than transferring another broth's numbers.

Brodo's Organic Chicken page identifies organic chicken bones and feet, onion, carrots, celery, black peppercorns, bay leaves and Himalayan sea salt. Its chicken product is different from Hearth, the company's mixed animal-source broth, and from flavored varieties. Do not assume every Brodo pouch is chicken-only.

These ingredient lists give you practical exclusion checks. Someone avoiding mushrooms, a particular herb or an animal source needs the actual selected label. A front-panel chicken description is not the complete recipe. If the listing image, title and ingredient text disagree, resolve the mismatch before ordering.

Compare sodium and protein on the same serving basis

FDA advises reading serving size and servings per container before interpreting nutrient amounts. A package may contain more than the serving shown in its nutrition panel. A prominent protein number in a listing title can refer to a different amount than the cup you plan to drink.

The Kettle & Fire product page and older support material currently show different nutrition presentations. We therefore do not reproduce a single protein or sodium figure as if it described every carton revision. Use the panel on the package you select, including whether it gives information per serving or per container.

If sodium is your main concern, compare the explicitly named Reduced Sodium Chicken formula with the standard product's actual panel. That is more useful than assuming all organic broth is low in sodium. FDA identifies sodium as a nutrient many people should limit. A medical sodium restriction needs an individual plan; a reduced sodium label alone does not establish that a food fits it.

For protein, compare both serving information and the food you would otherwise have. Do not treat broth as a complete meal merely because protein appears on the front. Our ready to drink protein shakes guide addresses a different category.

Carton or pouch: buy for how you will use it

A carton can make sense when you want broth for cooking as well as a warm drink. Decide whether you will use the opened amount within the package's storage instructions. Ordering a large assortment before you know the formula suits you may leave you with flavors or ingredients you did not intend to buy.

Brodo describes its pouches as pantry-friendly before opening. Its How to Brodo document says to empty a pouch into a mug or pot for heating and to refrigerate opened pouches. The booklet permits opened refrigerated broth for up to 5 days; follow the actual pouch if its instructions differ.

The pouch is a format distinction, not proof of superior nutrition. If you cook with broth often, your recipe and storage routine may make the carton more practical. If you prefer opening an individual portion, compare the Brodo package. Neither format establishes better taste, and we have not measured convenience or packaging waste.

Organic broth is not a health treatment

Choose organic bone broth because you want that food and its stated ingredients, not because a product page promises better digestion, skin, joints or immunity. Ingredient sourcing and the presence of protein do not establish those outcomes for the selected retail product. We do not recommend these as remedies.

Likewise, do not confuse prepared broth with bone broth protein powder. The powder guide compares concentrated products intended to be mixed; this guide compares liquids for sipping and cooking. They involve different packages, servings and preparation decisions. See bone broth protein if that is the product form you meant.

A clinician or dietitian can help when your diet has specific sodium, protein or ingredient limits. Check the complete nutrition label instead of choosing by an organic, keto or paleo badge alone. Buying no broth is also a reasonable outcome if it does not fit your food preferences or nutrition plan.

Storage, package condition and the order check

Brodo's maker booklet says not to consume broth from torn, leaking or inflated pouches. Inspect the package rather than assuming a delivery box means every inner container is intact. Keep the lot and package information if you need to raise a product problem with the seller.

Follow the specific package's unopened storage, opening and refrigeration instructions. A pantry-friendly unopened pouch is not permission to leave opened broth out. Heating directions also belong to the exact container: Brodo instructs emptying its pouch into a mug or pot rather than heating the sealed pouch.

Our checked New offers were sold by kettleandfire for the standard and Reduced Sodium Chicken cartons, and by Brodo for the chicken pouch package. Search results can include powders, variety packs or other animal sources. Confirm the selected title, package and seller each time.

Warranty terms were not verified for these food products. A direct-store satisfaction statement does not establish the return terms of an Amazon purchase. For a different warm drink, compare our ginger tea and turmeric tea guides; for a concentrated supplement form, see collagen peptides powder.

What to look for when you buy

Kettle & Fire Chicken Bone Broth

Best for: A liquid chicken carton for a warm mug or recipe base

The maker product page and Bone Broth Product Guide identify the named chicken formula and ingredients. This is prepared broth rather than a powder.

Watch out: Read the selected carton's serving and sodium panel. Current and older maker materials differ on nutrition presentation. Warranty terms were not verified.

Kettle & Fire Reduced Sodium Chicken Bone Broth

Best for: Comparing a clearly named reduced sodium chicken formula

The maker identifies a separate Reduced Sodium Chicken product on its product page and guide. Choose it by the exact label rather than the general brand name.

Watch out: Reduced sodium does not mean sodium-free. Confirm the actual panel fits your needs and select liquid broth, not powder. Warranty terms were not verified.

Brodo Organic Chicken Bone Broth

Best for: People who prefer an individual pouch of liquid chicken broth

The maker chicken page and How to Brodo booklet identify roasted organic chicken broth in a pantry-friendly pouch format.

Watch out: Verify Chicken, not Hearth or the variety pack; a checked Amazon bullet described a variety pack despite its chicken title. Check the selected package. Warranty terms were not verified.

When to talk to a doctor: Broth is a food, not a replacement for medical care. Check the full label and discuss suitability with your clinician or dietitian when following sodium, protein or other dietary restrictions.

Questions people ask

Is organic bone broth the same as bone broth protein powder?
No. These picks are prepared liquids. Powders are a different form, with their own ingredients, serving labels and mixing directions.
Does reduced sodium mean sodium-free?
No. Read the selected Reduced Sodium Chicken panel and its serving amount. The name alone does not establish suitability for a medical restriction.
Which protein number should I use?
Use the actual package's serving and nutrition panel. Maker support pages and listing titles may describe different revisions or per-container amounts.
Can an opened Brodo pouch stay in the pantry?
No. The maker booklet calls for refrigeration after opening and allows up to 5 days refrigerated. Follow the actual pouch if its instructions differ.
Does organic broth prove a gut or joint benefit?
No clinical benefit for these specific products was established here. Choose by food preferences, ingredients and nutrition information rather than a treatment promise.
