Find the lift you need before buying a riser
Set your chair and usual working position first. The NIH computer-workstation poster places the monitor top at or slightly below eye level, with the screen approximately an arm’s length away. Use that as a setup guide rather than assuming a taller screen is always better. A riser adds height; if you need to lower the screen, it works against that aim.
Check whether the monitor’s own stand already adjusts enough. If it does, you may not need an accessory. If it does not, write down the gap between the current position and your preferred position. Compare that need with the selected model’s adjustment positions, and include the height of the monitor’s original stand in your thinking.
Glasses, screen size and your particular work can affect the position you choose. Do not buy a stand solely because its package says ergonomic. The keyboard and mouse still need usable positions after the screen moves. A shelf does not solve every part of a workstation at once.
Compare the support surface, not just the weight limit
3M identifies MS80B as a 15 by 12 inch adjustable stand and lists a load limit of 80 lbs. Its separate product sheet describes the same model and stacking-column design. The maker lists a height range from 1 inch to 5 7/8 inches. Those are published stand specifications, not a recommendation to use its highest position.
A load rating is only part of the fit decision. Measure the monitor base, including splayed feet or an asymmetric rear section. Check that the supporting surface can accommodate that shape without an edge hanging over. Keep the screen and stand centered in a stable arrangement and follow the model’s assembly instructions.
Consider the desk as well as the riser. Leave usable depth for the screen, keyboard and your normal reach. A platform that fits the monitor but pushes the keyboard toward the desk edge may create another problem. If you intend to park a keyboard underneath, measure its full width and the actual opening between the supports instead of comparing the platform’s outside width.
What the Fellowes choices add
The current Designer Suites 8038101 maker page lists a built-in storage tray and three height positions. Its product specifications give external dimensions of 11.00 by 40.50 by 24.00 cm and a weight capacity of 18 kg. Keep those units as published when checking fit. A tray is a useful design difference if small desk items are what you want to organize.
The Standard 91712 maker page lists cable management, non-skid foot rings and three stacking adjustments. It is a different model from Designer Suites, not simply another color of the same stand. Its current regional page and an older US sell sheet describe different height positions. We are not combining those figures into one supposed universal range.
If you require a precise minimum or maximum lift from 91712, confirm the drawing and instructions for the version being sold before ordering. Matching the model number is necessary but does not erase conflicting regional documentation.
Read the documents and warranty for the exact model
Fellowes’ separate workspace downloads page explicitly lists both 8038101 and 91712, with manual downloads. Its US warranty schedule dated July 2025 lists both with a 5 Year Limited warranty. Older sales documents can show different terms, so retain the warranty supplied with the product and confirm the coverage that applies to your purchase.
We opened the 3M product page and MS80B product sheet but did not verify complete warranty terms for that selected offer. This guide does not promise a warranty duration for it. An online seller’s return policy is separate from a manufacturer warranty, and either may depend on the product’s condition and purchase route.
The supporting documents are Fellowes Workspace Downloads and its US Business Products Warranty Schedule (fellowes.com), and the 3M MS80B product sheet (multimedia.3m.com). They establish model identity and published design details. They do not establish which stand feels most stable on your desk.
Before you order
Our checked new offers for these exact models were sold by Amazon. Seller, color and included parts can change, so confirm the model number and contents on the selected offer before ordering.
The choice here is between documented designs and fit. We have not tested tipping resistance, long-term plastic wear or comfort, and make no promise about pain relief.

- Should every monitor be put on a riser?
- No. The NIH poster shows the top at or slightly below eye level. Check the existing position and built-in adjustment first; adding height can be the wrong change.
- Does a supported screen size prove the base fits?
- No. Measure the base itself and compare its full footprint with the supporting surface. A display’s diagonal measurement does not describe its feet.
- Why is the 91712 height range not quoted?
- The maker’s regional page and older US sell sheet differ. Confirm the version and supplied instructions before buying for a precise lift.
- Can I fit a keyboard underneath?
- Compare the keyboard with the actual gap between the stand supports. The platform’s external width does not establish the usable storage opening.
- Will a riser fix neck pain?
- We have not established that. It changes screen height. Ask a healthcare professional about persistent pain, tingling or numbness and consider the whole workstation.
