A CO2 monitor for your room
We research products from makers' specs and health sources; we do not run hands-on tests. Links to Amazon may earn us a commission at no cost to you. How this works.
- Aranet4 HOME. Best for: A battery-powered local CO2 display without WiFi. See options on Amazon
- SwitchBot Meter Pro CO2 Monitor. Best for: A display that can join an existing SwitchBot system. See options on Amazon
- Airthings View Plus, model 2960. Best for: Tracking radon and particles as well as CO2. See options on Amazon
Compare the job you need the monitor to do
| Exact model | Shortlist it for | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Aranet4 HOME | Local CO2 display and Bluetooth history | HOME is not the PRO base-station model |
| SwitchBot Meter Pro CO2 | CO2 display with optional smart-home connection | Some remote features require a SwitchBot Hub |
| Airthings View Plus 2960 | CO2, radon and particle monitoring together | Requires the app; uses 2.4 GHz WiFi |
Start with the reading you will act on and where you will read it. A screen in the room, history on a nearby phone and remote access while away are different requirements. Compare them before choosing a monitor by the number of sensors.
None of these is selected as a medical breath analyzer or an industrial gas-safety system. Check the intended environment before using a home monitor for another purpose.
Aranet4 HOME: a local display with optional Bluetooth
Aranet identifies the HOME model as an NDIR CO2 monitor with an electronic ink display. It also measures temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure. The manual explains that pressure data is available in the app. Bluetooth is optional for reading the device itself.
The useful distinction is being able to read a local CO2 value without a WiFi connection. The app adds settings and measurement history. Choose HOME for that standalone role; do not assume it has the separate PRO model’s connection to an Aranet PRO base station.
Aranet’s manual describes selectable measurement intervals and calibration. Follow those instructions for the exact device and firmware instead of assuming every momentary display change is a fresh sample. A battery-life headline also depends on settings; this page does not rank runtime from unrelated maker claims.
SwitchBot: check the CO2 version and hub requirement
The selected product is SwitchBot Meter Pro with CO2 monitoring, not the temperature-and-humidity-only Meter Pro. The maker specifies an NDIR sensor and a display for CO2, temperature, humidity, time and comfort information. It can use Type-C power or batteries.
SwitchBot identifies hub requirements alongside app alerts and smart integration. Decide which features you need before ordering a monitor alone. A working local screen does not establish that every remote notification will work without additional equipment.
The separate model support page explains the top button’s functions, including muting alerts, manually refreshing the display and switching temperature units. Read that guide when setting up rather than borrowing instructions from another SwitchBot meter. Confirm whether the Amazon selection includes only the monitor or a bundle.
Airthings View Plus: more pollutants, a different setup
View Plus model 2960 adds radon, particulate matter and VOC monitoring alongside CO2, temperature, humidity and pressure. Its product information specifies an NDIR CO2 sensor. This is the shortlist choice when those additional measurements are part of your actual buying need.
The View Plus starter guide says CO2 is sampled every 5 minutes and distinguishes sensor sampling from uploads to the cloud. A value on the device and the latest value in the app can therefore represent different update times. It also specifies 2.4 GHz WiFi and excludes networks with captive portals.
Airthings says View Plus is not designed for immediate health emergencies and does not provide an audible smoke or CO alarm. Do not buy it to replace those devices. More measurements are useful only if you understand what each one represents and the action appropriate to it.
What a CO2 reading can tell you about ventilation
CDC says CO2 monitoring can provide information about ventilation in a space. A change can reflect occupancy and help inform the outdoor-air supply. However, CDC also explains that CO2 concentrations cannot predict who has an infection, how many airborne viral particles an infected person produces, or how effectively a system removes particles near their source.
Use the value as one piece of environmental information. A green display is not proof of infection-free air, and a single number is not a complete assessment of a building. Different makers’ default colored thresholds are device settings, not interchangeable medical guarantees.
Placement affects interpretation. CDC warns that a window, supply airflow or other local air current can make a fixed monitor’s reading unrepresentative of the occupied space. Room air may not be well mixed. Read the maker’s placement instructions, keep the sensor openings unobstructed and avoid interpreting a brief change in isolation.
Record the conditions when comparing readings: whether people were present, whether a door was open and where the monitor sat. Do not compare unlike placements as though they were a controlled accuracy test. If a ventilation change is needed, consider the building and outdoor conditions rather than treating the monitor as an automatic instruction to open every window.
For particle monitoring as a separate buying need, see our air quality monitor guide. A sensor that measures particles is not automatically a direct CO2 sensor.
Calibration, warranty and purchase checks
Follow the model’s calibration process. Aranet’s manual describes fresh-air calibration and warns about people, animals or plants close to the sensor during that process. Do not transfer that procedure to View Plus: its starter guide explicitly says not to take it outdoors, even for a test.
Aranet’s current HOME product page states a 2-year warranty; read the applicable terms and purchase channel before relying on an extension. Airthings publishes standard and optional extended warranty conditions, including registration requirements and authorized-seller limits. These are service terms, not a guarantee that readings never drift.
SwitchBot’s published store warranty is limited to purchases through its official store and directs other-channel buyers to that platform. We therefore did not verify an equivalent manufacturer warranty for an Amazon purchase. Check that before ordering. Source terms are at aranet.com, airthings.com and switch-bot.com.
Use the exact model names in the Amazon search results and check the seller. A similar name, a different pollutant sensor or an accessory bundle can answer a different need. Keep the instructions and purchase record for setup and support.
What to look for when you buy
Aranet4 HOME
Best for: A battery-powered local CO2 display without WiFi
The maker documents a true NDIR sensor, an electronic ink screen and optional Bluetooth app connection.
Watch out: HOME cannot join an Aranet PRO base station. Use the model’s own placement and calibration instructions.
See options on AmazonSwitchBot Meter Pro CO2 Monitor
Best for: A display that can join an existing SwitchBot system
The maker specifies CO2, temperature and humidity readings plus optional hub-based connected features.
Watch out: Select the CO2 version. Some connected functions require a hub; Amazon-channel manufacturer warranty was not verified.
See options on AmazonAirthings View Plus, model 2960
Best for: Tracking radon and particles as well as CO2
The maker lists an NDIR CO2 sensor and additional radon, particle and VOC measurements.
Watch out: Requires the app and suitable WiFi. Keep it indoors; it is not a smoke or carbon-monoxide alarm.

- Is a CO2 monitor a carbon-monoxide alarm?
- No. CO2 is carbon dioxide and CO is carbon monoxide. These environmental monitors do not replace dedicated smoke or CO alarms.
- Does a green CO2 reading mean nobody can spread an infection?
- No. CDC says CO2 cannot identify infectious occupants or predict the amount of airborne virus they produce.
- Can I read Aranet4 without WiFi?
- Yes. Aranet4 HOME has a local display. Bluetooth and the app provide additional settings and history.
- Does every SwitchBot Meter Pro measure CO2?
- No. Choose the Meter Pro CO2 Monitor specifically. The similar temperature-and-humidity meter is a different product.
- Can I take View Plus outdoors to check calibration?
- No. Airthings’ View Plus starter guide explicitly says not to use it outdoors, even to test it. Follow that model’s instructions instead of another brand’s routine.
